The traditional skill of knitting is centuries old and it seems at odds with the modern world where we experience time-poverty and have concerns that the speed of life is eroding our our health and well being. Knitting creates a comfortable familiarity in its texture, using traditional as well as non-traditional materials.
Threads, wools, fabrics, knitting needles, sewing machines and making and mending were an intrinsic part of my childhood and adolescence, connecting me with my maternal family line. My ancestors also included a game keeper, boot makers and barge people.
Drawing is also central to my creativity; via my direct contact with the mark-making implement onto the support, I experience an instinctive engagement with materials as a means of expression and a way to understand form.
