Carl Neville is an early adopter of publishing on the web, establishing several blogging identities including The Impostume and the collective blogging sites of Up Close and Personal, Faces on Posters, and What Will Be Left of Them, featuring essays and thoughts on the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties from a number of contributors. His first two books on film and politics, Classless and No More Heroes were published by Zer0 Books, and the next two titles will be published by Repeater Books: a novel, Resolution Way and a utopian counterfactual thriller, Eminent Domain.
Carl will be talking about Writing Real Utopias. Utopian speculation has a long history in fiction, theory and film with each generation imagining its own version of the ideal society. How can we approach writing about a concrete, realizable Utopia, one which develops out of the most promising and progressive elements of our current moment? Carl’s talk will reflect on the problems of finding forms adequate to representing both dystopian and utopian visions, including examples from film.
Carl will also be speaking as part of our panel for the symposium on Radical Publishing for the New Millennium.
